News From Baildon St James

Hello All

My name is Helen Bowman and I started work as a new Community Development Worker earlier in the summer. I am based at St James's Church, often better known as 'the little white church' on the main road opposite the Halfway House.

The aim of my role is to develop services, groups and activities at the church which meet the needs of you, the local community. Several well established groups already meet at the church on a regular basis including Mother's Union, Baildon Ladies, Crafty Knits, Book Group, Art Group, History Group, Ladies Fellowship, Yoga and Zumba. Follow 'stjamescommunityhub' on Facebook for our up to date weekly time table.

Please bear with me however, as this is currently a work in progress!

In October I registered St James's as a Warm Space within the national initiative. This means that St James's Community Hub is open from 10am-4pm each Wednesday. Providing hot drinks until 12md and homemade soup with fresh bread on a pay as you feel basis until 1.30pm. Followed by warm drinks, simple craft activities and an opportunity to chat and socialise until 4pm.

November saw the start of a new craft group on a Monday afternoons, where we are currently focusing on Christmas crafts. This has been great fun and very well attended. With several ladies already asking what we are going to be creating in the New Year!

In January I am looking at starting new day time exercise classes - possibly Tai Chi or chair based yoga as I have already received several requests for these.

Should you have any other ideas for what you would like to see, or need any more information please do not hesitate to get in touch. There is a small level car park and easy access to the building, plus disabled toilets and baby changing facilities. Both the church hall and the lounge and kitchen are available for hire to groups and individuals.

The best way to contact me is via email stjameshub@parishofbaildon.uk

Alternatively phone me on 07378 745676. Please note I only work Monday and Wednesday so there maybe a short delay in getting back to you.

I would also love to hear from anyone with any spare time who would like to consider volunteering.

Thanks

Helen
