A voice for Baildon at Leeds Bradford Airport!

Baildon Town Council (BTC) have now received formal confirmation that they have been accepted as a full member of the Airport Consultative Committee, or ACC, which includes communities around the airport and other local and regional organisations. This follows a lengthy campaign by BTC, with the support of Cllr Ross-Shaw from Bradford Council, to seek representation for Baildon. Councillor Gill Dixon has been appointed as the BTC representative, and will attend her first ACC meeting on March 27th 2019.

Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) is a major local employer and business, with over 1000 staff working for Jet2 alone. The airport welcomed 4.08m passengers in 2017 and has an ambition to grow to 5m passengers by 2023, and more beyond that. In order to achieve this, LBA are planning improvements to a broad range of terminal facilities and airside operations. A consultation in September 2018 was about these proposals, which include a new arrivals hall, additional immigration and baggage claim capacity, as well as additional gate capacity for departing passengers. A strategic priority for LBA is to progress infrastructure improvements to improve access to the airport.

In 2017, BTC responded to a consultation about proposed changes to airspace. The new routes for take-off and landing (some of which are directly over Baildon but rise higher more quickly) have not yet been implemented, but are planned for May 2019. However the airlines are gradually replacing older noisier and less fuel efficient planes with the newer B737-800 (Jet 2 for example are part way through this replacement programme), together with other measures, so LBA say this will reduce noise impact overall.

Councillor Gill Dixon commented "securing a voice for Baildon on the ACC will improve lines of communication between LBA and Baildon, and allow us to directly comment on issues which affect our community, such as transport to and from the airport, and any changes in noise levels in Baildon as the airport expands"
